Musical Opinion Quarterly on Sophie Rosa “A Combination of sensitivity and virtuosity”

A captivating journey beginning with Mozart, the concert is led by violinist Sophie Rosa as both Director and soloist. Sophie’s appeared as soloist with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and Manchester Camerata to name a few. She has broadcast for BBC Radio 3 and has released CDs on Champs Hill and EM Records labels to critical acclaim.

Beginning leisurely with Mozart’s graceful and hypnotising measures, his Divertimento builds tension up to the exuberantly vivacious second movement, giving the piece a rich thematic development. Mendelsohn’s soaring and buoyant Violin Concerto in D Minor maintains the contagious energy, before giving way to Grieg’s warm ethereal musical animation, both dreamy, nostalgic and folksy. Suk offers his best-known work in Serenade for Strings, a sunny, straightforward master work of light touch and gifting superb loveliness to the listener.
