Unlock the Power of Music for people living with Dementia
From December 3 to 10 2024, we’re delighted to be part of the Big Give’s Christmas Challenge campaign. Every donation made during this period will be DOUBLED, up to a maximum of £5,000, thanks to matched funding.
As passionate music lovers, we know that music is more than just sound – it’s a powerful force that shapes our lives, lifting us, inspiring us, and bringing us together. For those living with dementia, the impact of music can be truly life-changing.
For people living with Dementia, it can be harder to stay connected with friends, family and community, leading to isolation and a decline in quality of life. But music has the unique ability to bridge these gaps, offering a way to communicate, reducing loneliness and enriching well-being. Sharing moments of music with loved ones allows families to reconnect in meaningful ways, often revealing glimpses of the person they cherish, expressed through the universal language of music.
“This project shows me the importance of having qualified individuals who bring ambition to the group. You don’t perform for them, you perform with them. In the world of dementia this is unique. You set the standard.”

Sinfonia Viva is a leader in creative music-making with older people and those living with Dementia. Our musical activities enable older people to collaborate creatively with one other alongside a professional orchestra.
We provide inclusive relaxed performances specifically designed to enable people living with dementia and their carers to experience the many benefits of live performance. Performances are curated by musicians with an expertise in empowering people living with dementia to engage with, and shape, the musical content and structure of each concert. This approach creates an inclusive and supported environment, reduces loneliness, improves mental wellbeing, and enables decision making.
Melodic Moments, our programme of relaxed concerts in Derby, is a joyful gathering where you can connect with others, share smiles, and create special memories. Presented in an informal and engaging way, these concerts are designed to be accessible for people who may find a formal concert setting challenging. These performances are particularly appropriate for people living with dementia and their carers.
With your support, you can help us to provide regular access to inclusive performances for people living with dementia in the community, creating an informal support network for them and their carers.
Your impact can be substantial. We aim to expand our series of Dementia Friendly Concerts in accessible venues in Derby, enabling individuals with dementia to attend with their carers and family members. This will provide people living with dementia and their carers a shared positive experience which brings them joy.
“I cannot thank you all enough. Your approach is inclusive, caring and above all else empowering. The communication is simply magnificent.”
Join us in making a difference in your community through the gift of music. Donate between December 3 and 10 via The Big Give and help us create a meaningful impact. Your generosity can bring the transformative power of music to those who need it most.
Warm regards,
Lucy Galliard
