Remembering Philip Gallaway

We are all deeply saddened to report that Philip Gallaway, Sinfonia Viva’s Principal 2^nd Violin, passed away on the 22^nd October 2025.

Philip joined Sinfonia Viva in December 2001, and over the last twenty four years he has embraced all aspects of Sinfonia Viva’s varied orchestral output. From creative project sharing events in sports centres, schools and community spaces, to orchestral and chamber concerts and recordings, Philip’s calm demeanour and outstanding musicianship enhanced every performance.

Philip was a much loved and respected member of our orchestra and he will be sorely missed for his professionalism, humility and kindness towards everyone he worked with.

Sinfonia Viva will be dedicating their concert on Wednesday 19^th November to Philip as a small token of our appreciation to his incredible contribution, not just to Sinfonia Viva, but to the musical life of this country.

Our thoughts are with his family, and his many friends and colleagues whose lives have been touched by Philip and his music over his long career.
