Live orchestral music for each of the four seasons

Experience the finest classical music live with our upcoming season in Derby and Nottingham.

This year we have a thrilling world first as our Patrons Sheku, Isata and Braimah Kanneh-Mason perform Beethoven’s ‘Triple Concerto’ with us before they head off on a big US tour.

As we near the end of our 2024-5 season of Melodic Moments concerts, we wanted to share some of our highlights from the past year with you!

On Tuesday 1^st April, schools and colleges from across Derby City joined musicians from Sinfonia Viva, led by guest conductor Alice Farnham, for the grand finale of our latest STEM project. Wondering what you might have missed? Have a read to find out!

Hot on the heels of our new Section Principal Viola, Clarinet and Bassoon appointments, we have another new appointment to reveal as Sarah Pennington joins us as Section Principal Horn.

We are proud to announce that, in collaboration with Orchestras Live and the DigiScore project, we have won the 2025 Global Tech Award for Music Technology for our innovative and inclusive music project: Jess+.

With your help we can inspire children’s creativity through music

For the Big Give Arts for Impact Campaign this March we have set a target of raising £10,000 to help us provide more music experiences to more children throughout the East Midlands – particularly children whose access to music is limited for various reasons. Every donation made via our Big Give Campaign page during this period will be doubled, up to a maximum of £5,000

New Principal Musicians Positions

We have recently appointed three more principal musicians.  Matt Dunn as Section Principal Clarinet, Wenhan Jiang as Section Principal Viola and Gareth Humphreys as Section Principal Bassoon.

We’re really excited for the future of Sinfonia Viva with Matt, Wenhan and Gareth as key players in our orchestra.

Setting the Cogs in Motion for Mechanical Advantage

Young people from Firs Primary School, Becket Primary School, The Bemrose School and Derby College will not only learn these existing songs but also work with music leaders James Redwood and Charly Jolly, and Sinfonia Viva musicians Isobel Adams (viola) and Gareth Humphreys (bassoon), to create their own responses to the themes of the project. In just a few short weeks they will be joined by a 14-strong orchestra to bring their ideas to life at Derby Theatre!
