Introducing Melodic Moments for 2026-27

Join us at Derby’s Museum of Making for welcoming afternoons of live music, conversation and connection.

Created especially for people living with dementia, carers, and those with additional needs or life-limiting conditions, Melodic Moments offers a relaxed and supportive environment where everyone can enjoy music in whatever way feels right for them.

The relaxed one-hour afternoon concerts feature a small group of musicians and a programme of accessible music chosen to resonate with audiences.  Here’s a flavour of what we have in store this year.

  • Tuesday 20 October 2026, 2pm – Our vibrant wind quintet takes centre stage, blending the distinctive voices of flute, oboe, clarinet, horn and bassoon in a programme full of warmth, colour and charm.
  • Tuesday 15 December 2026, 2pm – The rich combination of clarinet, double bass and percussion promises an afternoon full of warmth, character and musical sparkle.
  • Tuesday 16 February 2027, 2pm – Our string trio will share a thoughtfully chosen programme of beautiful music in an afternoon designed to soothe, uplift and inspire.
  • Tuesday 20 April 2027. 2pm – For the first time at Melodic Moments we have a singer, accompanying harpist Lucy Nolan.
  • Tuesday 15 June 2027, 2pm – We’re delighted to welcome back our fabulous wind quintet – musicians who have been part of the Melodic Moments journey since the very first concert.

Throughout each event, presenter Caroline Welsh’s storytelling helps create a relaxed atmosphere where everyone can feel involved, connected and welcome. Whether you’re discovering Melodic Moments for the first time or returning to a familiar favourite, you’ll be part of an experience that celebrates music, community and togetherness.

The afternoon ends with tea and cake –  a much-loved moment where conversations continue, friendships grow and shared connections flourish.

Cake is served at the end of Sinfonia Viva's Melodic moments concert. It is a victoria sponge
