Sinfonia Viva is searching for a new Leader to take over from Benedict Holland who steps down at the end of the 2018/19 season. Sinfonia Viva is located in the East Midlands, but works nationally. In addition to giving concerts it has a national reputation for its project and outreach work. The ideal person will be able to demonstrate a strong record of artistic leadership (including directing), programming skills and an understanding of, as well as an affinity for, the role of creative project and outreach work in a variety of settings.Like all musicians associated with the Orchestra, this is a freelance position. All players are, therefore, responsible for their own tax, pension contributions, instrument insurance and any other personal financial matters.
• be an outstanding violinist• have outstanding communication skills• be able to lead the first violin section and the string section in cooperation with conductors and with fellow principals• be able to lead and direct from the violin those concerts in which no conductor is engaged• perform concerti as required• be knowledgeable of the chamber orchestra repertoire and be able to suggest suitable programmes for directed / chamber concerts working within budget restraints such as orchestration and available rehearsal time• be able to perform in chamber ensembles (including wind/brass) as required• be able to support and advise Principal Conductor Frank Zielhorst in developing the artistic direction of the orchestra• be part of the education project delivery team, demonstrating excellent improvisation skills, confidence (and experience) in facilitating creative work with small groups, enthusiasm and a passion for sharing music with a broad range of people and an understanding that they will access it on a number of different levels• have a commitment to ensuring the highest quality of experience for project participants• assist the orchestra's management in artistic and HR matters
