Let Mozart’s party music liven up your Friday afternoon.

The music

Mozart Serenade No. 10 'Gran Partita'

The artists

Sinfonia Viva

Bubbly, bouncy, and full of memorable melodies, Mozart’s toe-tapping Gran Partita was the perfect music for an 18th century party. Dust off those January blues and join us at the Museum of Making for a joyful Friday afternoon concert celebrating some of Mozart’s most imaginative music.

The Gran Partita shows off the best of the 13 wind players from our orchestra, with famous sections for oboes, bassoons, horns and clarinets. The piece was likely written for a party or outdoor function - the winds chosen to give the whole thing a bit of oomph. But despite its grander, high tempo moments, the music also includes more reflective, subtle, and tender sections.

You’ll probably recognise the famous Adagio, which has been used in iconic film and television scenes from Amadeus, The West Wing and How I Met Your Mother. Then make a day of it exploring 18th century artefacts at Museum of Making and Derby Museum & Art Gallery. Did you know Derby Museum & Art Gallery has the largest collection of paintings in the world by Joseph Wright of Derby, one of Mozart's direct contemporaries.
